Low Level Laser
Therapy (LLLT) has been used worldwide for over 40 years to
relieve pain, heal wounds, treat scars, regenerate nerves and solve
addictions. Laser therapy is safe and non-toxic and has no adverse
Our clinic uses an Erchonia cold laser to treat a variety of conditions and speed the healing process. Unlike hot lasers, which are used to achieve surgical precision, cold lasers are used to promote healing.
How does LLLT work?
Low level lasers work at the cellular level to help tissues—muscles, skin and nerve—heal faster. Lasers work on two basic principles; they 1) increase cellular regeneration and 2) increase cellular communication. Cells need energy to heal, and research has shown that LLLT stimulated photoreceptors in cells, thereby increases energy available to the cells. Specially, human cells produce a chemical called adenosine triphosphate (ATP) that provides energy to cells to perform all the functions of the human body. Mitochondria, a micro-structure within cells, produces ATP. Laser therapy stimulates the mitochondria to produce higher amounts of ATP, thus allowing tissues to heal faster.

- Acute and chronic pain
- Post-surgical pain
- Bone fractures
- Neck and back pain
- Hip pain
- Shoulder pain
- Foot pain
- Headaches and migraines
- Nerve and disc pain
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Sprains and strains
- Plantar fasciitis
- Chronic joint pain
How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatments needed for each individual will vary based on several factors including, for instance, the specific condition, the amount of damage and degeneration, how long the condition has been present, and the overall health of the individual. In general, 4 to 12 treatments are necessary to promote tissue healing, although in some cases, relief can begin immediately after a 5 to 10 minute treatments. For simple sprains and strains, we often recommend a course of 8 treatments but can work with the patient to come up with a feasible plan. Moreover, treatment effects are cumulative, so we usually recommend getting treatments frequently at first (maybe 2-3 times a week) so you can reap the most benefits in the shortest amount of time.
Based on your diagnosis, we will work with you to determine the best treatment protocol.
Should I do Laser Therapy or Acupuncture?
Both laser therapy and acupuncture can help treat a wide variety of pain and other conditions. In fact, the two modalities complement each other well, and we often recommend that people do both. The laser can be applied easily during acupuncture treatments, thus helping you get the most out of each treatment.
It is likely that adding laser treatment to your acupuncture sessions will speed up healing and pain relief and reduce the total number of treatments you need to achieve long-lasting results.
However, laser therapy and acupuncture are also great stand-alone treatments. We offer 30 minute stand-alone laser therapy sessions in addition to our acupuncture treatments. If you are an existing acupuncture patient at our clinic, we can include 3-4 needles in the laser therapy session, if you would like.
Additionally, because more frequent treatments are often better, especially at the early stages of healing, you can combine 60-minute acupuncture treatments with 30-minute laser therapy sessions for a more time- and cost-effective treatment approach.
Please see our “fee” page for more information on the various appointment options.
Why do you use an Erchonia laser?
Erchonia was the first U.S. low level laser company and has numerous FDA clearances for treating various conditions. In 2002, Erchonia because the first laser in the world to gain FDA clearance for the treatment of chronic pain. Over time, Erchonia lasers’ uses have expanded to include treatment for neurological disorders, arthritis, sprains, strains, weight loss, post surgical recovery and many other conditions.
The 2002 FDA clearance for the treatment of neck and shoulder pain was based on a double blind research study found that patients treated with LLLT had 66% faster and more complete relief than the control group. Numerous studies conducted since then have found similar benefits from laser therapy. Erchonia is a leader in LLLT and continues to conduct numerous studies aimed at identifying potential uses of laser therapy.
