Teaming Up for Optimal Health
Many acupuncturists regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a person's care. However, if the acupuncturist only reduces the symptoms and does not address the underlying causes, the chances of the condition recurring are often high. To prevent a recurrence of symptoms, whether in the next few weeks or in the next couple of years, it is necessary to continue treatments even after symptoms are gone.
During the correction/restorative phase of your care, you will not have to come in for treatment as often. We usually recommend treatments once a week or once very two weeks. During this phase, in addition to continuing to utilize various treatment modalities (acupuncture, Laser therapy, bodywork), the acupuncturist will probably suggest adding more corrective exercises and may recommend specific Postural Alignment Therapy or Foundation Training lessons. Although this may seem overwhelming, adding in a more structured corrective exercise regimen can often reduce the number of acupuncture treatments required to restore full health.
Finally, do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups of your symptoms on occasion. This is common. Flare-ups may occur during this phase because your body has not yet fully healed. Depending on the specific situation, a patient might be in the corrective care phase for anywhere between one and four months. As long as you are moving in the right direction and feel your body changing, flare-ups are "normal" and not a cause of concern.
