Postural Alignment Therapy using The Egoscue Method

Do you suffer from chronic pain? Have you tried numerous treatments and experienced only temporary pain relief, if any at all? Are you ready to treat the cause of the pain and not chase the pain itself?

The Egoscue Method is simple and effective program that treats musculoskeletal pain without drugs, surgery, or manipulation. This posture therapy system involves a sequence of stretches and gentle exercises (called “e-cises”) designed specifically for each patient. When practiced consistently, the personalized e-cise routine strengthens specific muscles and brings the body back to its proper alignment and functioning, thus eliminating pain.

The Egoscue Method aims to correct postural imbalances that are often at the root of chronic pain. Many chronic pain treatment methods address only symptoms in an attempt to reduce or mask pain. Egoscue, however, focuses on the underlying causes of the symptoms to create enduring changes that will both eliminate pain and prevent its recurrence.

Despite what many people say, chronic pain is not an inevitable part of aging, genetics or participation in certain sports or activities. Rather, pain often exists because the body is out of balance in some way, so posture and movements are compromised. Imbalances can occur as the result of injuries, both recent and old; repetitive stresses, such as sitting at a desk all day; overuse, from exercise or work; or postural dysfunctions, such as scoliosis. Luckily, these imbalances can be corrected through targeted exercises. Not only will you be pain free, but you will be able to continue to do all of the activities you love.

When the body is imbalanced and out of perfect alignment, compensations will occur as the body attempts to bring itself back into balance. Muscles might start to lengthen or shorten or work in ways they are not intended as the body, in its infinite wisdom, tries to function as best it can. However, these compensations will cause stress to your tissues and joints, which over time will lead ot inflammation and tissue injury. Only when this tissue injury builds up enough to cause pain will you realize that something is wrong.

By assessing your posture and movement patterns, Amy will identify your unique imbalances and prescribe exercises to help you make positive changes bring yourself back into alignment. Within a relatively short period of time, you should start to feel improvement with your pain. As your body changes, Amy may prescribe new exercises to further correct imbalances and strengthen particular muscles. Over time, you will change your body’s alignment and movement patterns, thus treating the root of your pain and eliminating the symptom.

Amy realizes that people are busy and do not have hours a day to devote to rehab. Luckily the Egoscue Method can be tailored to each person’s individual needs, goals and time restraints. E-cise routines can take as little as ten minutes a day and still achieve effective and long-lasting results.

To achieve quicker and more long-lasting results, you can combine acupuncture and Egoscue Method therapy. Regular acupuncture treatments, especially in the beginning of your healing process, can accelerate changes in your body and provide faster pain relief. At the same time, by doing the e-cise program at home, you can prolong and accentuate the effects of the acupuncture treatments and prevent backslides between treatments.

The Egoscue Method can treat a wide variety of conditions, including:

  • Chronic and acute muscle pain
  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Knee pain
  • Ankle pain
  • Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain
  • Migraines
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Jaw pain

A recent pilot study by The Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) at Stanford Medicine found that patients treated by the Egoscue Method experienced a significant reduction in spine pain. Click here for more information.
